The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have chalked up a milestone this afternoon, signing up the club’s 10,000th member. His name is Luke Demanuele from St Clair.
“I’m so surprised,” Luke said. “I just came here to sign up before the holidays and buy a few things for Christmas for a couple of my relatives. It’s now become a mad Christmas for me.”
Luke has been a member for the past three years. He and his family attend every home game and travel to away games as often as possible.
A long-time supporter of the Eels for almost twenty-eight years, Luke says he loves being a member. “For me it’s about supporting my club, being a part of the team and giving them back something because I get so much out of them.”
Just for being lucky enough to become our 10,000th member, Luke and his family will get to attend an exclusive training session with Ricky and the boys in the New Year. “Bring the kids down for sure,” Ricky told him. “We’ll make sure you get a few photos and meet the players. Congratulations mate, we love having people like you around the club.”
“Be sure to wear your signed jersey with pride next year”, he added.
Luke started supporting the Eels when his dad brought him along to footy games as a child. He and his wife Sarah plan to keep up the tradition with their two-year-old son Jarryd who yes, you guessed it, was named after our very own Jarryd Hayne.
Luke was also lucky enough to have a chat with Jarryd while he was here and he also bumped into Chris Sandow in the corridor.
“I can’t believe it, I never have this kind of luck; it’s really special and great to see the Eels getting everyone involved again. We are all in for an awesome year.”
Luke says he is going to miss watching Nathan Nindmarsh but is excited about the season ahead with new CEO Ken Edwards on board and new coach Ricky Stuart.
