Dyldam Parramatta Eels co-captain Tim Mannah says the Blue and Gold is prepared to fight for a finals berth this season, with extra motivation from a fired up Head Coach.

Despite the 32-12 scoreline in Friday night’s Round 19 loss to the Rabbitohs, Mannah said the young Eels side is still working to string together the wins to stake a claim for the top eight.

“We’ve got a quality team and when we’re on our game we’re very hard to beat,” Mannah said.

“We can make a run [for the eight] in the next few weeks, it’s about getting back on track and that starts this week against the Gold Coast.”

“Sometimes, with a young team, the challenge of backing up week in week out can be tough, especially in an environment like the NRL, but I don’t think a young team is a problem [for us].”

“I think a lot of the success we’ve had this year is because of the young team we have and their enthusiasm.”

In charge of that young team is rookie Head Coach Brad Arthur, and Mannah said ‘BA’ was key in motivating the team to keep pushing to play in September.

“When you’re losing games sometimes the natural reaction is to figure out where it’s coming from and how you can fix it.” Mannah said.

“But I think we’ve got some really good people in our coaching staff that are keeping a level head and helping the young guys understand that we’re still in this. There are still seven games before the semis, so we want to make a real crack at it.”

“[Brad Arthur]’s been great: he’s very passionate about winning. He doesn’t want to come in here and say ‘oh we had a good year’. He’s very passionate about making sure we don’t let the good start to the year just waste away.”
