Dyldam Parramatta Eels assistant coach Steve Murphy says the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder doesn’t give the full picture as the Eels prepare to take on the Newcastle Knights.
Previewing the Eels’ Round 25 clash at Hunter Stadium thanks to Unibet, Murphy said the Blue and Gold will need to lift to secure a win and keep their finals hopes alive.
“We need to be at our very best this week against a team that’s probably going to want to finish the season very well,” Murphy said.
“We haven’t earned the right to disrespect anyone. They’ve won 6 of their last 9 I think, and a few impressive scalps in that too. So we need to be at our very best this week.”
And with the Eels’ looking to back up from an impressive 22-12 over the Sea Eagles last Friday night, Murphy says the side’s training during the week has laid a solid foundation for this afternoon’s match.
We’ve prepared well and that’s all we can do at this stage,” Murphy said.
“We can’t fault their effort, their attitude, enthusiasm, anything. They’re all doing everything that’s asked of them at the moment, we’ve just got to transfer that to on-field performances.”
“We’re a work in progress this club and this team, and hopefully we’ll continue to get better in the weeks ahead.”
