Dyldam Parramatta Eels forward Darcy Lussick is looking forward to the 2015 NRL season.

By his own admission, the 2013 Ken Thornett Medal winner, had an inconsistent 2014 that was interrupted by injury, and the forward is looking to get back to his best form in the upcoming season.

“I sort of only got to where I wanted to be towards the end of last year. I have tried to keep myself in shape during the offseason, have a big pre-season and I can’t wait for round one.” Lussick said.

The 114kg Lussick has stuck to his word and remained match fit during the pre-season, and the front-rower is looking to improve on his limited game time that he saw in his 14 appearances during the 2014 season.

“The pre-season training is going good. It’s obviously been tough but it has been enjoyable. There is a lot of new faces but it’s a pleasure coming to training every day and working hard with the boys, so we are all looking forward to the year” Lussick said.

The Blue and Gold sees a handful of fresh new faces into the line-up this year, and despite the talent coming through the ranks, Lussick has been surprised about the impact Anthony Watmough has had on the side.

“There has been a few blokes that have come up from the Under 20s that are real big and upcoming players,” Lussick said.

“But the person that has surprised me the most is probably Choc (Anthony Watmough). Just his attitude he brings to training, you can tell he has something to prove coming out here.”

“He is always a laugh around the boys and he has been great for us” he added.

Lussick is glad to have been re-united with his former Manly teammate Watmough, with the two sharing a strong friendship off the football field.

Lussick has been able to pick the brain of the experienced Watmough during the pre-season, and the forward is glad he will play beside the near 300-game veteran, rather than against him, when the Eels play the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles in Round One.

“I played with him over at Manly, and I learnt a lot from him there as well. I can’t wait to play with him this year,” Lussick said.

“I am good mates with him off the field and I am glad that we have him out here at Parramatta.”

Lussick, who is entering his third season with the Blue and Gold, is excited about the future of the Blue and Gold. With a young and upcoming roster and a talented backline, Lussick is most excited about working with an enthusiastic forward pack.

“Coming to training everyday is just enjoyable. A couple of years ago we had some really good young kids who have really come on now so I think this year we are going to see some pretty good young kids emerge,” Lussick said.

“Everybody knows we have a skilled backline but I am most excited about playing with the forwards this year.”

“We have a great forward pack and they are real enthusiastic so I can’t wait.”
