The Dyldam Parramatta Eels came away with a 16-12 victory over the St George Illawarra Dragons last week to claim their first back-to-back wins of the season.

The Round 16 victory saw the Eels move into twelfth on the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder and put the Blue and Gold within striking distance of the top eight heading into the back end of the season.

Despite the intense off-field scrutiny from the media last week, Eels forward Darcy Lussick reflected on the victory saying the Blue and Gold could only focus on what they could control, and that was putting in a strong performance on the field.

“It has been a pretty tough week here last week in terms of publicity that the club got,” Lussick said.

“The best thing that we could of done as a playing group was put in a good performance on the field and we were lucky to get away with the win.”

“At the end of the day, as players we don’t have control over anything. All we can control is the performances we put on the training field and the performances we put on the field.” Lussick added.

The Eels will come up against the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium on Monday 6 July, and the Blue and Gold will be looking to continue their winning ways in Round 17 before they head into the bye.

“Teams are always dangerous when they are coming off a loss and the Tigers are probably just as desperate as us at the moment to get a win,” Lussick said.

“We are doing our best to prepare for them and it should be a really good game on Monday.”

With the Wests Tigers missing Robbie Farah and Aaron Woods through NSW Origin duties, the Eels have done plenty of preparation on their opposition.

“The have strike across the park so we have identified a couple of players that we need to target and today at training we will be doing that.” Lussick said.

The Eels will welcome the return of second rower Manu Ma’u from suspension, adding potency to the Eels left edge attack, and Lussick said the forwards will need to work hard in the middle to provide opportunities out wide.

“Semi has been phenomenal and is nearly leading the comp in the try scoring even though he was out for about six weeks there,” Lussick praised.

“The edges are playing really well at the moment and hopefully us middle can give them something to work with this week.”

The Eels will take on the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium on Monday 6 July, kick off at 7pm. Eels Members will also enjoy free reciprocal Member access to the game - click through for more information.
