Dyldam Parramatta Eels fullback Michael Gordon has admitted he’s the wrong person to ask about the club’s off-field dramas, including the recent charge notice issued to his teammate, Corey Norman.
Gordon confessed that he’s not one to read the sports pages, or talk about footy gossip with the team.
“It’s not difficult [to ignore the drama] if you don’t read about it and you don’t listen to it and you don’t talk about it,” Gordon said.
“None of us sit there and gossip about it: we come here to train and we come here to play.”
“I don’t really read the papers or that these days so it took me a while to hear it all [about Corey]. Knowing Normy, not much fazes him. He seemed alright in the gym the morning so I think he’ll be fine. I just said g’day to him this morning and he was all smiles like normal.”
“I’ll treat him as a friend, and if he asks for help or advice them I’m happy to give it.”
Instead, Gordon was eager to turn his gaze to Monday night’s match up with the Newcastle Knights at Hunter Stadium, and atone for two disappointing losses in the past two rounds.
“We’ve just come off a disappointing loss,” Gordon said.
“Melbourne are just a clinical team and we gave them too many opportunities and didn’t take ours.”
“But we’re not giving up on anything yet, we’re here to win games and that’s what we’re planning on doing. Hopefully they (the supporters) can stick with us for the rest of the year.”
The Eels kick off against the Knights at 7pm on Monday, May 30, at Newcastle’s Hunter Stadium.
