Parramatta Eels club captain Tim Mannah says the playing group will be chasing victories for the remainder of the 2016 season, even with finals out of reach.
After a 34-14 loss to the Gold Coast Titans at Cbus Super Stadium, Mannah says the Blue and Gold playing group will never give up.
“They’ve obviously showed a lot of fight since we started in November, and we know what kind of group we’ve got here; it’s a very resilient and tough group,” Mannah said.
“And I’ve got no doubt that whatever the situation is, the boys will turn up every week with the right attitude and a real hunger to succeed.
Mannah says the off-field dramas surrounding the club have actually bonded the side closer together, and united them in their belief as a team.
“I think we’ve already seen signs of that for the last few months,” he said.
“I’ve got no doubt that we’ll be better for it once we come through it, but we’ve got to keep going.”
With six weeks of the season still to play, Mannah says the side is refusing to wish the year away.
“I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve missed a fair chunk of footy this year, so for me it’s exciting every time I get to put the boots on and play a bit of footy,” he said.
“And I know the boys have the same mentality that we get to play the NRL, and it’s something we love to do for a living, so I’m excited every time we get to go out and play some footy.”
Addressing the way the players have approached the off-field dramas, Mannah said it’s been easier to deal with than outsiders might expect.
“To be honest, it’s pretty easy.”
“We’ve got a really good group around us - obviously our staff have done a great job this year - but even the boys we have every day, the attitude we have there makes what we have at our club a lot easier to deal with situations that look pretty messy from the outside, but it’s a lot easier from the inside.”
