Dyldam Parramatta Eels five-eighth Clint Gutherson says the Blue and Gold will be out to spoil the party for their opposition over the next six rounds of the NRL Telstra Premiership.
After a loss to the Gold Coast Titans last week, ruling out the Blue and Gold Finals contention, Gutherson said the Eels squad will be determined and focused on winning as many games over the next six rounds.
“It was a bit disappointing after the game on the weekend that it became a reality that we can’t make it so that is a bit tough, but now we are just focused on winning the next six games and finishing the season well and going into next year with a positive mindset.”
“We don’t see any excuses to drop off. We are still going to be fighting and try and ruin a few team’s seasons in the last six weeks,” Gutherson added.
“We are doing our best to win the games and build some combinations here for next year.”
“We want to try and spoil as many parties as we can these last six weeks.”
The first challenge comes this week in the Wests Tigers.
The Eels’ Round 21 opposition currently sit tenth on the ladder, with the Finals hopes still alive, and Gutherson knows they will be a challenge.
“They are on a roll at the moment, they are playing some good footy and we just have to come out on Saturday ready to go,” Gutherson said.
“You just have to try limit the time he [James Tedesco] has with the ball and what he does with the ball,” Gutherson said of the dangerous Wests Tigers fullback.
“As you have seen over the first part of the season, he is a freak and keeps getting better and better and we just have to do our best to stop that.”
“Mitch [Moses] is playing some good footy at the moment, and he has a bit of confidence and is playing well. Their whole team is playing good footy at the moment, they are running off the back of their forwards and playing some good footy so we just have to limit that as best as possible.” Gutherson added.
And whilst the Wests Tigers will be without hooker Robbie Farah, Gutherson said the side will need to remain focused on the 17 men on the field.
“They had a good game on the weekend without him [Robbie Farah],” Gutherson said.
“He is a quality player, every knows that, he has been playing Origin for the last 10 years. I don’t know what is going on over there but we just have to focus on who is playing and what we can do to stop them.”
The Eels kick off against the Wests Tigers on Saturday July 30 at ANZ Stadium, kick off at 5:30pm.
