This week, the Parramatta Eels have thrown their support behind the ‘All Abilities Festival of Sport’ as event partners, highlighting the various way people with disability can be involved in the game of rugby league.
As a celebration to mark the start of the ‘Festival of All Abilities’ (FOAA) 2016 program, along with Social Inclusion Week (19-27 November) the Blue and Gold, along with the NRL and NSWRL, involved themselves in an action packed morning at Merrylands Oval in the Cumberland area on Thursday 24 November.
The day celebrated people of all ages and abilities, whilst showcasing a pathway to inclusive sport and highlighting various ways people with disability can be involved - Wheelchair Rugby League, Try Time (League for people with Intellectual Disability), Physical Disability Rugby League and Backyard League (adapted and modified skills for all ages).
“The Parramatta Eels are proud to celebrate Social Inclusion Week with Cumberland Council through the Festival of All Abilities program," Michael Basan, Parramatta Eels Strategic Partnerships Manager said.
“Our Club has partnered with Try Time Rugby League and Western Sydney Wheelchair Rugby League to create awareness and increase participation across all versions of the game.”
Rugby League was one of many sports that was featured at the All Abilities Festival of Sport 2016 with Wheelchair Sports, Softball and many more sports also taking part.
It was a day that encouraged, supported and challenged over 75 local people with disability to lead a sporting life, with the Eels decking all participants out in Blue and Gold!
