HIGHLIGHTS | BA leads All Stars team to victory

This week, the Parramatta Eels headed to Rouse Hill Public School on Monday (5 December 2016) to lend their support to the annual Rouse Hill PS League Tag Tournament.

Parramatta Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur and NRL Development Officers were all on hand to lend their skills to a massive day of footy as the Teachers and All Stars side snagged a 4-3 victory over the Students team.

The annual competition has been a highlight in the Blue and Gold calendar, with Eels Arthur and Luke Burt along with other squad members involved in the past, and this year was no different.

However apart from the fun, there are plenty of other benefits for Rouse Hill Public School.

“Its been great, there has been a lot of student participation, lots of teachers involved which is fantastic and it’s great having the Parramatta Eels involved here as well,” Rouse Hill Public School Principal Mrs Alison Filipic said.

“This year’s competition has gone on for the last 6 months or so and it’s all about student well being, getting kids involved in school, participating, keeping active but also learning to co-operate together, getting along as a team, working together and it has created a real camaraderie.”

“All teams have girls and boys in them, and they all have beginners and very experienced players so its great to see the experienced players taking on a mentor and leadership role and really help the beginners. We have really seen a real team spirit which is lovely,” Filipic added.

It was a tightly contested affair in the sweltering conditions, however Arthur played a key role in seeing the All Stars team come away with a victory over the students side, captained by Arthur’s son Matt.

“At first we thought the students were going to get the teachers. They started very strong but the teachers finished very strong at the end, but I think that was marginally due to having Brad on the teachers team!” Filipic said.

“It’s all about fun, having a good time but the teachers do love to win!” Filipic joked.

“it’s all about having fun, working together and to do this kind of thing at the end of the year, it really brings our community together with lots of laughs out there on the field today.”
