It started off with a request via Twitter, from a user named Alex Sassine who asked some of the Eels players to visit her sick pop, Jimmy Porter.

And the Blue & Gold responded.

Jimmy Porter is a die hard Eels fan, who unfortunately hasn't been able to attend any games over the past few years, and is currently going through some tougher times.

The players (Brad Takairangi, Siosaia Vave and Suaia Matagi) packed up their things after their Captain's Run training session and went to surprise Jimmy at his home yesterday.

“He was so surprised when they were walking into his driveway,” said Alex.

“He had to make sure his hair was brushed too.”

“He also teared up a little when they told him they all send their love and are thinking of him, and hopefully they can get a win for him tomorrow.”

“He had the biggest smile on his face.”

The Eels trio presented Jimmy with a full team signed jersey, organised by the team.

Brad Takairangi said, “it was our pleasure to go and visit Jimmy and brighten his spirits.”

“The boys and I were happy to go surprise him with a visit and seeing that huge smile on his face was great.”
