Wentworthville Magpies coach Brett Cook says while his side has struggled through some flat form in the later rounds of the 2014 season, he’s confident they can rebound in this weekend’s do-or-die final against the Wyong Roos.

The Roos have been in a purple patch, notching up six straight victories, but Cook believes there are positives to be taken out of his side’s loss in the first week of finals footy that putWenty in good stead for their elimination final on Sunday.

“We’re not going too badly ourselves,” Cook said.

“We just need to improve on a few little areas. We had our chances [against Newcastle last week] and a few times we just didn’t execute well.

“We defended quite well; they threw plenty at us and the last 25 minutes they were scoreless.”

And while the Magpies finished inside the top four to earn a second chance after their 24-12 loss to the Knights, Cook is looking for a little more in season 2014.

“Making the top four has been a successful season for us, but I think we can go another week or two.”

Wenty take on the Wyong Roos at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday afternoon, kicking off at 4.00pm. The game will also be live streamed at NSWRL.com.au.

The Magpies VB NSW cup side won’t be the only Wenty team contesting the finals on Sunday, with the Wenty Sydney Shield and Ron Massey teams both playing their week 2 finals fixtures at Windsor.

Meanwhile, the Guildford Owls are coming off wins in week one of the finals in both Sydney Shield and Ron Massey Cup, putting them into week two matches against the Peninsula Seagulls as part of Sunday’s quadruple-header.
