Dyldam Parramatta Eels and Wentworthville Magpies Fabian Goodall has celebrated Fiji’s 22-10 victory over Papau New Guinea at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday night (2 May 2015) crossing for a four pointer to seal the victory.

Playing in front of a vocal crowd, Fijian winger Marika Koroibete scored two first half tries along with a four pointer to Fijian skipper Jayson Bukuya to provide a 18-0 lead at half time.

PNG were their own worst enemy in the first half, producing several errors at crucial times that provided Fiji the opportunities to pile on the points.

Fiji made the most of the possession towards the back end of the half, and their flair in attack was too much for the PNG side to defend as they crossed for three four-pointers.

Bukuya crossed for the first try of the match after 20 minutes before the flying Koroibete proved to be too elusive as he scored two tries in quick succession down the left edge.

However, the second half saw a different PNG side as the Kumuls played with plenty of energy and enthusiasm to claw their way back into the match.

They crossed for their first four pointer of the night in the 52nd minute through winger Matt Trnka who pounced on an offload from centre Kata Ottai, who managed to get away a ball away when it looked like two defenders had shut down their left edge shift.

The Kumuls struck again in the 68th minute to close the deficit to just 8 points when a determined Stanton Albert charged over the top of three Fijian defenders to score next to the posts for a converted try.

PNG were finishing the game strong, and as they looked to play some expansive football in an attempt to score points, fullback Josh Damen drifted across field and attempted to pass a long ball to his outside backs.

However centre Fabian Goodall was aware of the long ball and he gleefully accepted the pass before running 60 meters to score out wide and end the PNG resurgence.

Goodall’s try was unconverted, however it secured the victory for Fiji, 22-10.
