Blue and Gold Army, this weekend is dedicated to you! Join us on Sunday, September 6, for our Blue and Gold Army Round as the Dyldam Parramatta Eels take on the Canberra Raiders at Pirtek Stadium.
Last month, we met one of our Blue and Gold Members, Narelle Craufurd from the Northern Territory.
Craufurd is a proud Member of the Blue and Gold who brought along a special piece of memorabilia.
“My grandfather, Gerry Maddock, was very proud of playing for Parramatta in 1947,” Craufurd said.
“This is his jersey, and he was very proud of his rugby league career. He loved playing rugby and loved supporting all his grand children through sport and just one day, he decided to send this to me in a post pack, no note or anything.”
“Got down to the post office, opened it up and nearly fell over when I opened it!”
Craufurd’s grandfather played in the Parramatta District in 1947 however unfortunately broke his leg after one game in the Blue and Gold.
However despite just the one appearance, the jersey is very treasured in the Craufurd household.
“It is very, very treasured. I am going to get it framed with a few other pieces of memorabilia,” Craufurd said.
“Grandad unfortunately passed away in 2011 but I have had this jersey since 2009, so definitely a while now. I was absolutely wrapped and ecstatic to get it!” she added.
Craufurd’s love for the Blue and Gold has spread through generations of her family.
“I have been a Parramatta supporter for a long time. When I left Sydney, my Mother had a huge Parramatta flag in the laundry and now my eldest son is a Parramatta supporter!”

This Sunday, when the Eels take on the Raiders, we’re putting together giveaways for our loyal Blue and Gold Army, as we prepare to say thank you to all our supporters, and farewell the 2015 season as well as our departing and retiring players.
