The Dyldam Parramatta Eels today welcome the NSW Government’s announcement of a new stadium in Parramatta, as part of a $1 billion program of investment into Sydney’s sporting infrastructure.
The 30,000-seat rectangular stadium is scheduled to be completed by 2019, and will be the long-term home of the Parramatta Eels.
“This announcement means our Members and supporters will be able to watch rugby league in brand new, state-of-the-art facilities, creating a significantly improved experience for both players and fans,” Parramatta Eels Chairman Steve Sharp said.
“Today’s announcement complements the Parramatta Leagues Club’s $100 million precinct upgrade which is scheduled for completion at the same time, and will create a world-class entertainment and sporting hub in Western Sydney.”
“We have been holding ongoing discussions with the Premier and the State government for over two and a half years lobbying for a redevelopment of this nature, and this is a fantastic result. Our Members should be proud of the commitment their board has shown in being a contributing partner to this outcome.”
The new stadium will cater for the ongoing growth of the Eels, after setting a Membership record for the third consecutive season.
“Not only is this a win for our Members and fans, but the significantly enhanced corporate facilities of a new stadium will also cater to our growing commercial partnership base,” Acting CEO John Boulous said.
“With our football department moving into Old Saleyards Reserve in Parramatta this year as a dedicated training facility and high performance centre, our players will also have the first-rate training and playing facilities they deserve.”
The Eels will undertake extensive consultation with the club’s Members during the construction process.
