Former Parramatta Eels Captain and Hall of Fame Legend Nathan Cayless has been appointed coach of the Wentworthville Magpies ISP NSW team for the remainder of the 2016 season.

With Wentworthville Magpies coach Joey Grima unavailable for personal health reasons, Cayless will step into the role as the side prepares for their Round 13 clash with the New Zealand Warriors at Mount Smart Stadium.

Cayless was Head Coach of the Eels SG Ball side in 2016, assistant coach in 2014, and assistant coach of the Blue and Gold Holden Cup side in 2015.

Dyldam Parramatta Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur said Grima’s contributions had been obvious from pre-season onwards.

“Joey works closely with the NRL and NYC coaching staff as a Development Coach as well as being the Wentworthville Magpies coach, and he brings so much to the club as a person and as a coach,” Arthur said.

“He was disappointed to have to step aside, which is typical of his dedication.”

“Nathan is obviously a household name, but he’s also showed great instincts for the job and we’re grateful to have a coach of his calibre within the club to step in.”
