Dyldam Parramatta Eels fullback Michael Gordon says the victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs was an important one for their resolve, with the side’s defence leading the way to a 30-12 victory.

“It was a tough game, the conditions were pretty good; I thought it would be a lot colder and a lot wetter, but it held up nicely,” Gordon said.

“It was a back and forth sort of game, and we felt like we were on top and then they scored just before halftime which was disappointing.”

“We always felt we were going to come over the top of them and we did in the end.”

Gordon was on song with the boot, kicking seven goals from seven attempts to help seal the win.

“It was just one of those ones where I struck the ball well from the start,” Gordon said.

“I actually broke my own tee from Bevan [French]’s try over on the sideline and they put a bit of sticky tape back on it, but it was nice to see them come off the boot well.”

After halftime, Gordon says the message from Head Coach Brad Arthur was simple: focus on defence.

“[It was about] not having any lapses - we had one lapse in the middle and they went straight through and [he said] just to focus on our defence and we’d finish over the top of them, and it was good to finish like that,” he said.
