Arthur: “It was a gutsy performance”

Parramatta Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur has praised his side’s determination following their 26-22 win over the Wests Tigers on Easter Monday but said there’s still plenty for his players to work on.

“We played some good football but our execution and final passes and nailing some big moments we didn't get right. I thought it was a gutsy performance in that last period and we needed it,” Arthur said.

“We've been working hard and we've played some good football but we need to be able to sustain that for 80 minutes. We're letting some soft tries in and that's not good.”

Eels captain Tim Mannah echoed his coach’s sentiments saying they needed to keep working hard.

“As players, no one likes losing games and they were starting to pile up there. As a playing group we can get a bit more confidence out of that result and fix up what we need to and get ready for our next game,” Mannah said.

“I thought the closer we got, the more of a sniff we got, the more excited the boys played. The result is a pleasing aspect of the game but there's definitely parts we need to improve.”

Arthur said his side started well but their poor execution early on almost cost them the two points.

“I thought we executed our plan pretty well in the first 10-15 minutes but we bombed two or three tries. We can't do that, at the end of the day NRL players, whether their confidence is down or not, need to be able to get those plays right.”

Parramatta’s right edge though was given some praise from their captain for their strong performances.

“Hoffy's been really consistent all year for us but Kirisome definitely had his best game of the year so far. He played with a lot of energy and a lot of hunger and it was definitely contagious,” Mannah said.

The Eels next play the Penrith Panthers and Brad Arthur said that’s his side’s main concern for the next week.

“We have a five day turn around into what I think will be a desperate Penrith team, so that's our priority right now,” Arthur said.
