Young Eels dominate Storm NYC at Sunshine Coast Stadium

The Parramatta Eels NYC side have come away 48-16 victors over the Melbourne Storm NYC side at Sunshine Coast Stadium, Queensland on Saturday 8 July in Round 18 of the Holden Cup competition.

The clash started in a tight back and forth contest before a dominant second half saw the Blue & Gold run away 32 point victors in the nine tries to three affair. Eels NYC fullback Anthony Layoun, winger Greg Leleisiuao and utility Reed Mahoney all crossing for two tries each.

Eels hooker and co-captain Denzal Tonise put the first points on the board in the 5th minute of the clash with a strong individual effort close to the line before Melbourne winger Kea Pere levelled the score in the 10th minute of the clash.

The Eels went on a run of tries through Lelisiuao (20th minute), Mahoney (24th minute) and Layoun (32nd minute) as the Blue & Gold headed towards half time with a commanding 22-6 lead.

However the Storm struck on the half time siren through centre Jesse Arthars, to cut down the lead to two converted tries (Eels 22 – Storm 10).

Young half Joseph Taipari struck early in the second half, crossing in the 43rd minute of the clash before Storm winger Harlan Collins crossed for his own converted try in the 48th minute.

However the back end of the second half saw the Eels will all the momentum.

Leleisiuao crossed out wide for his second try of the afternoon in the 53th minute, before centre Emosi Alamoti crossed in the 60th minute to further extend the Eels lead.

Late tries to Layoun in the 70th minute and Mahoney in the 77th minute put a stamp on the Blue & Gold performance, securing a convincing 48-16 victory in Queensland.

The victory was the Eels NYC ninth of the season.
