Biography

Colonel Jack Argent was the founder of the Parramatta District Rugby League Club, and the man responsible for the Club’s entry into the N.S.W.R.L. competition in 1947.

In fact, as early as 1935, Colonel Argent was lobbying the N.S.W.R.L. to include the Parramatta Club into the competition.

Parramatta Leagues Club is to this very day referred to as ‘The House that Jack built’ as his company carried out the construction of the building that opened in 1959.

No-one has made a greater contribution to the Parramatta Eels and Leagues Club.

Colonel Argent was a great worker for the Parramatta community over several decades. He was patron of the local Referees Association and of the Parramatta Eels Supporters Club. He helped several charities, and was the club’s delegate to the N.S.W.R.L.

His administrative skills were admired, and he was appointed Team Manager for the 1959 Australian Kangaroo tour.

Jack passed away in 2004, aged 99.
