Biography

Steve Edge played in an amazing 11 grand finals in all grades during his career and is regarded as one of the most successful captains of the modern era.

A representative hooker, he joined Parramatta from St George in 1980, securing the captaincy under coach Jack Gibson in 1981 and captained the Eels to its first premiership being the first of three consecutive grand final victories.

Steve played in the first ever State of Origin match for NSW in 1980.

He suffered a serious eye injury (detached retina and punctured iris) and retired following the club’s unsuccessful 1984 grand final campaign.
