Biography

A proud Yuin man, Steve was an attacking centre/five-eighth and a key member of the Eels' champion backline during the golden era of the 1980s. Nicknamed 'The Zip Zip Man', Steve Ella was a gifted player with an abundance of pace and ball skills.

He toured with the 1982 'Invincibles' Kangaroos, scoring 21 tries in 13 matches. In that same year, he broke the Club record for the most tries in a season, finishing with 23.

In 1985, Steve was the season's leading try scorer with 21 tries. He joined Wigan for the off-season and collected another 21 tries from 21 games.

Steve played in Parramatta's 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1986 premiership wins.

He retired in 1989 after suffering career-ending shoulder injuries.
