National Rugby League Chief Executives have today issued a joint statement expressing disappointment at The Daily Telegraphs approaches to the Mannah family and the way in which privileged information has been used in relation to the story.
We recognise the rights of the media to report in the public interest but the rights of individuals also need to be respected, the CEOs agreed.
There has been significant pain caused to the Mannah family in the way this has been addressed and the people involved must accept a level of responsibility for that pain.
We accept that the seriousness of the ASADA inquiry ensures a high level of public scrutiny but the seriousness of it also demands a high level of responsibility.
The way in which the Mannah family has been brought into this as a result of reporting last week is something that has disappointed every club and every player.
