Coach Laurie Daley has put his faith in Eels fullback Jarryd Hayne, naming him in the number one jersey for the New South Wales Blues for Origin 1 on June 5 in Sydney.

In a season where the Parramatta Eels have endured some disappointing losses, Eels head coach Ricky Stuart says Jarryd Hayne's form has been nothing short of Origin-standard.

"He deserves it," Stuart told reporters in Mudgee while they waited for Daley to officially name his side on Sunday night.

"His form certainly warrants his position."

And with just five minutes left on the clock in the Eels' Sunday afternoon match, Stuart unexpectedly pulled Hayne from the field, explaining that with the score sitting at 42-4, there was no need to keep the blue and gold playmaker out on the pitch.

"I took him off there tonight because I was just trying to save him for Origin," Stuart said.

"I thought Jarryd had a go today along with three or four others [in the team]."
