Pirtek Parramatta Eels halfback Luke Kelly said he's looking forward to an opportunity to prove himself this week, after being named at halfback for the team to play the Panthers this Saturday.

It follows Ricky Stuart naming Chris Sandow to play in the Wenty Magpies, our NSW Cup side this weekend.

"It's disappointing for Chrissy, but it's a great opportunity for myself," Kelly said.

"There's not a great deal of pressure on the team; we've got nothing to lose, so hopefully we can come out here and win front of our home crowd."

"They've rocked up all year, we've had some bad results but still they turn up each week, so hopefully we can put in a performance for them."

Luke also rubbished suggestion he was not wanted at the club for next season, saying he's sticking around for 2014.

"As far as I know I wasn't one of the 12 [named to move on], my name was thrown around [in the papers] but I'm here next year," he said.

"It's a great opportunity for myself and hopefully I can grab it with both hands."

Kelly is confident the side can put in better performances over the back end of the season.

"No-one ever likes losing, it makes it tough but we get another chance this week."

"Sometimes it only takes one good win or one good performance and it can turn things around and pick up the spirits of the boys, so hopefully Saturday's the day."
