Pirtek Parramatta Eels head coach Ricky Stuart says his side showed a great effort in tonight's 22-12 loss to the Brisbane Broncos, but it was the lack of execution of attacking plays that let the side down.

"We threw plenty at them, and to the Broncos' credit they defended very well," he said.

"We created a lot of opportunity. It's been a story for us all year, lacking that three or four pass passage of play, lacking that last pass."

"It's not sticking or being executed correctly, so it's frustrating but it's something we've got to work on."

Despite that, Stuart had praise for his side for digging deep.

"I couldn't be unhappy with the amount of opportunities we created, and if we were better we would have been better on the scoreboard going into halftime and then again in the second half," he said.

"But we just couldn't get over the stripe."

On co-captain Jarryd Hayne's injury, Ricky says hopefully it's not too serious.

"I haven't spoken to the doctor yet, but coming from Jarryd he said he just stretched an old injury."

"It looked like he panicked and I think you do that when you've had a pretty bad injury before and you feel you may have re-injured it, but hopefully he's only aggravated or twinged it a little bit."

"The last thing you want is Jarryd on the sidelines again but his welfare is most important."
