Today is about supporting Junior Rugby League. The kids that are playing in this competition dont play in regular school competitions.
Matt Phelan says the competition of 12 year olds is a great chance to showcase fresh talent.
Its grown year on year and its a real opportunity to showcase rugby league Its a showcase where the different regions get together and showcase rugby league and their talents.
According to Phelan, junior rugby league is all about the community, drawing players from the local schools.
Weve got a great representation here from our district and our area. Bonny Rig is here, Northmead is here and a number of other schools.
The junior rugby league is growing quickly, with increases across the age groups.
This year alone weve grown our mini league by 6%, our modern league by 9%. Exponentially were growing year on year. Weve got in excess of 7000 registered players across both our catholic convents and our junior league.
Phelan says the Parramatta Eels office has a team committed to developing the junior players, as they are the future of the game.
Weve got 5 dedicated game development officers working full time within the Parramatta office in the NRL. Its one of our key focuses to grow our junior league.
Thats where the next talented players are coming through in our NRL squad.
