After serving the Parramatta Eels as player, captain and corporate sales Manager, Blue and Gold great Nathan Cayless is excited to step into his first foray as SG Ball Assistant Coach in 2014.

Since coaching the Wentworthville Under 7s back in 2001, this is Nathans first coaching appointment here at Parramatta.

It was something that I thought when I first left that I wouldnt get into, but being out for three years Ive had a bit of interest in it.

Cayless says it will be a good experience for him stepping into the coaching role.

Its a way of dipping my toe in the water and see if I like it," he said.

Im really looking forward to it. Ive done a bit and really enjoyed it so far. Its a good opportunity of getting to know some of the good young kids coming through our ranks.

Having trialled over a thousand young players, Nathan says the talent out there is amazing.

I was very impressed, especially with the size. The kids coming through now are getting bigger and bigger. So much power, so much pure skill. Obviously theyve learnt these skills at a much younger age, says Cayless.

Their training levels are so much more advanced because of the training level they are receiving at the club.

As a football player, Cayless says the focus of SG Ball is on the development of the players, to work out when they will be ready to play for the NRL.

Its great to get good results for the SG Ball but at the end of the day its about trying to fast track and get improvement out of these young kids.

Its all about forward planning. Things are going well off the field for the club. The sky is the limit for our great club."

Cayless will be working with head coach Mark Mahoney and assistant coach Michael Withers.

This season the SG Ball side made it to the semi finals but Cayless has already been told that they are expected to win in 2014.
