Dyldam Parramatta Eels CEO Scott Seward announced today that the Northern Territory will get the first glimpse of the Eels in action in 2014, when the side heads to Alice Springs in early February.
As part of a week-long visit to the Territory, the Blue and Gold will play its first trial match against the Wests Tigers on February 8 at Alice Springs newly-revamped ANZAC Oval.
Its a bit exciting for all of us, Seward said.
Its part of our agreement with the Northern Territory Government, playing in central Australia, and itll be nice to see the boys out there running around in the Blue - or Gold - jersey, and see how we go under Brad Arthur.
The trip to Alice Springs will lead into an appearance at the inaugural Auckland Nines tournament in New Zealand, and a second trial match at Brookvale Oval against the Manly Sea Eagles.
Seward says hes hoping for a strong showing in all three pre-season fixtures, including the nine-a-side matches in Auckland.
Its a good opportunity for us to get out there and hopefully win some silverware! Seward said.
The announcement of the Eels trial matches followed the unveiling of Parramattas Home, Away and Training jerseys for the 2014 NRL Premiership season, and Seward said the decision to bring back the traditional gold away strip was an easy one.
It was a really simple process, Seward said.
Our fans told us that they wanted the gold jersey back, so thats what weve done and they look terrific.
