Wentworthville posted a convincing 44-10 victory over the Newtown Jets at Ringrose Park last Sunday.
Led by their NRL stars, Chris Sandow, Ryan Morgan, Ken Sio and David Gower, the Magpies scored six unanswered tries in the first half to storm to a 34-0 lead at the break.
The rout started after just three minutes when the home side took advantage of back to back penalties to advance deep into Newtown's half. Wenty moved the ball across the backline and winger Sio had little trouble diving over for his first try of the afternoon. Sandow converted and the Magpies were on their way 6-0.
From there both sides got into the tussle and it wasn't until ten minutes later that Wenty went further ahead 12-0 when five-eighth Sam Gorman put Gower through a gap with a wonderful pass.
The Black and Whites were at it again in the 23rd minute thanks to a good try to centre Morgan who crossed over for a converted try.
Newtown seemingly had no answer to the onslaught and Morgan soon picked up his second try with a superb solo effort that saw him bust the line and run over fifty metres to score beside the posts.
Speedy winger Sio capped off a brilliant first half with a hat trick after crossing over for two more tries in the 27th and 38th minutes to give his side an unassailable 34-0 lead.
Determined to make up for a forgettable first half, the Jets came out all guns blazing in the second term.
Former Wests Tiger will-o'-the-wisp Shannon Gallant beat several players to scoot over after just two minutes. Bobbie Goulding converted the goal and the visitors were on the board at 34-6.
You might have been forgiven for thinking Newtown were back in the game when Gallant crossed over again just five minutes later making the score 34-10.
Wentworthville clocked off in the second half and never really got out of second gear. But the Jets were guilty of showing poor discipline with the ball and were unable to capatilise any further.
In complete contrast to the first half, the second 40 was a dour struggle riddled with penalties and handling errors.
The Magpies however, did manage to score two more tries to seal the win. Strong prop Taniela Lasalo barged over with 14 minutes to go and winger Bureta Faraimo did likewise six minutes later.
Sandow ended an impressive performance with six from eight conversions as Wenty surge to the top of the table with two wins from two starts.
Wentworthville will try and keep their unbeaten run going when they head to Brooky to face Manly on Sunday while the Jets will try and bounce back against Mounties out at Aubrey Keech Reserve on Saturday afternoon.
