Dyldam Parramatta Eels forward Mitch Allgood says the Blue and Gold is slowly building confidence and belief as the team prepares to take on the in-form Wests Tigers on Easter Monday.
With a 4-2 start to the season, Allgood says the feeling at Parramatta is a good one, but the Eels aren’t in a position to talk themselves up.
“The last couple of years we haven’t had the best season and haven’t got off to a start like this, so it’s kind of refreshing,” Allgood said.
“There’s a confidence that we’re taking each week, we’re building that together. It’s contagious and everyone’s got it at the club at the moment.”
“I like where we’re sitting at the moment but we’re not content either. We’re just focussing on us, we’ll just keep doing that: improving on each area where we find weakness in our team each week, trying to better ourselves and look forward in a positive way.”
While he wouldn’t buy into a war of words between the two forward packs, Allgood says he’s preparing for a challenge on the field on Monday afternoon, hopefully with the added ammunition of a vocal Eels home crowd.
“We’re expecting a big battle, a big challenge and we’re preparing for that. We’ve just got to go out there and do our jobs.”
“It’s been awesome [the last few weeks], to come out to everyone screaming and chanting.
“I suppose you don’t know what to expect [from each team] at the start of the season but given the last few weeks that both teams have had it’s turned out to be a big one and we’re expecting a lot of people at the game.”
“We’re looking for a big match again on Monday and hopefully continue to build on what we’ve started.”
