Voting is now open for Rugby League’s 'Favourite Son'! The voting is the start of almost a month of celebrations for the 2014 Harvey Norman Women in League Round, and this year, Eels fans can vote for our own Ben Smith!

The Harvey Norman Favourite Son Award acknowledges an NRL player whose attitude and character has an outstanding influence on the game, and whose integrity and reputation makes us love the game more.

Always one of the first players to take iniative and help others off the field, Ben has always taken every chance to help others.

In his role as Ambassador for the Black Dog Institute he works to raise awareness of mental health issues and educate the youth of Western Sydney about the vital work the Institute does.

In his own time he's also a frequent visitor to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead visiting families and giving them support.

In 2014, Ben initiated the “For the Farmers” Appeal. Highlighting the effect that the drought has had on North West NSW and surrounding areas, this is a first for our game and going forward will be one of Ben’s legacies when he finishes his career in football.

“For the Farmers” was the major fundraiser at the Easter Monday game where 50,000 fans saw the effects of the drought and thousands was raised for Junior Sport in rural NSW.

In his 12 years at the Eels, Ben has become part of the community and is a true gentleman of the game. To recognise Ben as your Favourite Son, cast your vote now!

The winner will be announced on Wednesday, May 14, at the Women in League Sydney Lunch, the official start to the Harvey Norman Women in League initiative.
