Dyldam Parramatta Eels co-captain Jarryd Hayne says despite some defensive lapses, the Eels will enjoy the week ahead after Monday night’s win over the Cronulla Sharks.

The 42-24 game saw both sides firing in attack, but Hayne said the 24 points the Sharks scored on the night have given the side something to work on.

“I guess for us, our ‘D’ was probably a bit down and we let a few tries in,” Hayne said.

“So we’re going to have to be better next week coming up against the Dragons, but we’re going to enjoy the win.”

“We came here to get the two points, and we got that: we just need to be better.”

And when it comes to his teammate Will Hopoate, Hayne said even he was shocked by the young centre’s skill in attack.

“He actually surprised me tonight,” Hayne said.

“His hand control is unbelievable, the way he caught that ball and passed it.

“He’s starting to find that form that saw him get the sky blue jersey which is great.”
