Dyldam Parramatta Eels prop Junior Paulo says he’s pleased with the role Eels forwards played in Friday night’s 18-16 win over the North Queensland at Pirtek Stadium.

With two Australia front-rowers in the Cowboys' line-up, Paulo seized his opportunity in the starting side, putting in a performance that included his first try of the 2014 season.

“Throughout the week I knew it was going to be a challenge coming up against the two Australian Test props [Matt Scott and James Tamou],” Paulo said.

“But I was just happy that the boys pulled through; our forward pack really showed up tonight.”

Despite the narrow 18-16 scoreline, the Eels weren’t short of options in attack, including key offloads from the Blue and Gold forwards. A Pauli Pauli ball to Hayne resulted in one four-pointer, while Kenny Edwards offloaded to spark Semi Radradra’s try.

“We base our game around our defence,” Paulo said.

“And in attack just getting through the line and getting offloads to Sandow, Hayne and Normy (Corey Norman) out the back.”

“Everyone did their job tonight but there’s still room for improvement for us.”
