Dyldam Parramatta Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur has praised his side's toughness in their 22-12 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday afternoon.

Despite pointing to areas of improvement in the Eels’ execution, Arthur was quick to point to the desperation the Blue and Gold showed in defence.

“I thought we played tough today,” Arthur said.

“That’s probably not something we’ve been known for, but we’re slowly developing a bit of a backbone."

“Our defence on the try line for repeated sets, we showed a lot of desperation and belief there and made our tackles.”

“I think that was pretty important that we continued to turn them away and frustrate them.”

“Our execution at times wasn’t great: we turned over some cheap possession. We can play a lot smarter and be a lot better but I can’t teach them how to be tough; they’ve got to want to be tough.”
