The Dyldam Parramatta Eels Ben Smith is a finalist for the Ken Stephen Medal at tonight's One Community Awards, along with some people we know well, the Katherine Junior Rugby League!

The Ken Stephen Medal recognises one NRL player each year for their contribution to the community, with Ben Smith nominated for his tireless work as an ambassador for the Children's Hospital at Westmead and the Black Dog Institute, as well as his efforts in launching the For the Farmers Appeal.

Alongside Smith and his NRL counterparts, the One Community Awards also recognise grassroots efforts and outstanding individuals from across Australia. This year, the nominees for the Telstra NRL One Community Grassroots Club of the Year include the Katherine Junior Rugby League from the Northern Territory Rugby League, selected as a finalist with a chance to win a $5,000 prize.

As part the the Eels partnership with the Northern Territory Government, our development officers, former players and Eels legends have all spent time in Katherine and seen first hand the growing rugby league community.

The Eels wish big Benny Smith and the Katherine contingent good luck at tonight's awards!
