The Wentworthville Magpies have been defeated 30-16 by the North Sydney Bears in their opening match of the VB NSW Cup season at Ringrose Park.

Despute a strong second-half performance and the possibility of a home side comeback, the Bears held out the Magpies to post a Round One win.

Magpies Head Coach Brett Cook commented on last week’s performance, “It was a disappointing result and not a good way to start the season but hopefully this week we will rectify a few things,” he said.

“The big thing we need to rectify is the energy they come to the game with. We were out enthused on the weekend by Norths and everything that we wanted to bring to the game we didn’t, and the other team did, and that’s why they got the win”

“We can look at the positives during the second half, especially the way the guys came back in the second half and scored 16 points.”

“North’s didn’t get their last try til a minute to go, and there was a fair bit of defence we had to do, so there was definitely a better attitude in the second half. We just gave them too much start.”
