The Dyldam Parramatta Eels have fallen at Suncorp Stadium to the Brisbane Broncos, 28-16 in their Anzac Day clash tonight (Saturday 25 April).

In front of a vocal 34,398-strong crowd watching the fifth ANZAC Day NRL game, the Eels were looking for their first back to back victories of the season, before a 90m break-away try from Broncos half Anthony Milford secured the victory for the home side.

A beautifully-timed Chris Sandow 40/20 kick saw the Eels apply pressure early, earning three consecutive attacking sets that ended only after a Broncos intercept.

Centre Brad Takairangi was momentarily stunned after a high shot from Broncos prop Josh McGuire, who was place don report.

The home side put first points on the board through a Corey Parker penalty goal earned from the Eels markers not being square, and the subsequent kick-off floated a little long.

The Broncos looked out to their right edge and scored through a barnstorming Jack Reed who launched over the line, just ahead of Eels winger John Folau.

The conversion from Parker was unsuccessful, but the next set another penalty to the Broncos saw him slot a second goal, making the score 8-0.

The Broncos looked to have scored from some lightning hands from Hodges and Reed, but a forward pass was ruled.

The Eels scored their first points after winger Bureta Faraimo scored in the corner, after some quick hands from Terepo, Sandow and Norman found some space.

Sandow’s sideline conversion attempt snagged the posts and rebounded, leaving the half-time score at 8-4.

Prop Josh McGuire scored in the 47th minute, after picking up a loose ball and making a big 30metre run to the tryline, converted by Parker.

The Eels were the beneficiaries of an extra six tackles after a Robinson bomb was touched by the Broncos, and a lightning combination pass from Corey Norman and Chris Sandow ended with Bureta Faraimo scoring his second on the right wing.

Anthony Watmough was placed on report for a high tackle on Lachlan Maranta, and Parker slotted the subsequent penalty goal in the 59th minute.

A short ball from Justin Hodges to Kodi Nikorima saw him make a massive run to the line, ending in a flick pass to Anthony Milford who added a four-pointer to the home side.

Parker slotted the conversion from just the left of the posts.

The video refs went upstairs for a possible Tim Mannah try which was ruled to have been held up.

The next play, Bureta Faraimo scored his third try of the night after a behind-the-back flick pass from Sandow opened some space.

Sandow reduced the lead to a converted try after adding the extras and the score was 22-16 heading into the final ten minutes of the match.

With minutes remaining in the match, and the Eels on the attack looking for points, a grubber from Norman was cleaned up by Broncos half Milford who scooped on the loose ball before running 90m to score.

Parker converted the try as the Broncos came away with the two points, winning 28-16.
