Parramatta Leagues Club Statement
The Parramatta Leagues Club Group would like to clarify a number of false allegations made in a news report and on social media this evening.
Ray Price is a valued life Member of the Parramatta Eels NRL Club, however Ray is not a financial Member of the Parramatta Leagues Club (PLC), and is therefore ineligible to stand at the 2015 Parramatta Leagues Club election as per the NSW Registered Clubs Act and PLC constitution.
Club records show that in 2011, Ray Price was added to the membership database and the financial transaction records indicate that this Membership was processed at zero dollars.
Ray's Membership was voted on by the Board in February 2011, however the Board cannot over rule the constitution. Ray's Membership is, therefore, honorary.
Honorary Members are not eligible to vote at general meetings nor stand for office.
Ben Smith has been ruled ineligible to stand for the PLC election as he was performing paid work for the Parramatta Eels at Eels' home games at the time of his nomination.
Ben did not advise or clarify his employment status before submitting his nomination.
The Club received an invoice from Ben as recently as April 20 regarding his work and it was processed on April 27.
Ben's legal advisers wrote to the club and stated that Ben now resigns from any position, however the failure to resolve this prior to nominations closing means he is ineligible to stand in the 2015 elections.
