The Dyldam Parramatta Eels have thrown their support behind the Parramatta Mission this afternoon (Friday 5 June) giving out scarves ahead of the winter and assisted in the promotion of the upcoming Parramatta Mission Celebrity Charity Touch Football match which is the curtain-raiser to the Eels v Cowboys Round 13 clash!

The services at Parramatta Mission focus on families, young people, women and men who are seriously disadvantaged, especially people experiencing crisis, people with mental illness and people who are homeless.

Details of the upcoming Touch Football game.

“Parramatta Mission does Meals Plus which provides breakfast and lunch, five days a week, for people who are homeless or sleeping rough in the Parramatta area or Western Sydney,” said Rev Keith Hamilton – Parramatta Mission.

“We provide meals, plus support and ways in which we can refer people to the support service that they need.”

“The numbers of people we accommodate are more than 300 people overnight and help in the 1000’s everyday through the programs we run everyday here out of Parramatta, right across Western Sydney and extending up the Central Coast.”

Fellow Parramatta Mission representative Karen Burns stressed the importance of the work done in the community by the Parramatta Mission.

“My role is the CEO of UnitingRecovery and UnitingHope which encompass delivering services to people with a mental illness, their family, their carers, people who are homeless and people who might be living through domestic violence situations,” Burns said.

“We really provide a broad range of service options for people within and beyond Western Sydney who need our support.”

“1 in 5 people will be affected by mental illness across their lives, so we probably all know someone who is, or will be affected so the ability for people to know where they can access help is really important.”
