Alex Twal and Dylan Izzard have taken home the Under 20s awards at the Dyldam Parramatta Eels’ Ken Thornett Medal night for 2015.
Twal was voted the Steven Ella NYC Players’ Player, while Izzard took home the Brett Kenny NYC Coaches’ Award.
For Izzard, the nod from the coaching staff was an unexpected one.
“It’s a very surprising award,” Izzard said.
“We probably didn’t have the best season on the park but we had a lot of talented boys, and we made sure that we spent a lot of time away from footy as well with each other and it makes footy a lot more enjoyable.”
Across the season, players submit 3-2-1 votes each week for their Players’ Player, with Alex Twal proving the standout in the final tally.
The front-rower had a strong season from the start in 2015, with representative call ups for both the Under 20s NSW Blues and the Junior Kangaroos.
“I’m very stoked with the award,” Twal said.
“It could go to anyone, because all the boys really played good this year. It was unfortunate we didn’t get the end result and the desired goal, but all the boys played well and i’m very humbled to get this award.”
