The Dyldam Parramatta Eels’ coaching staff have spent some time with cross-code neighbours, GWS Giants, to continue their learning and development.

Head Coach Brad Arthur, Physical Performance Manager Paul Devlin and NYC Head of Strength and Conditioning Nathan Beutel spent Friday with the Giants’ coach Leon Cameron and Head of Athletic Performance, David Joyce.

“I’ve known David for quite a long time and he’s very highly regarded around the world for his high performance structure, and he’s really done an unbelievable job at GWS,” Paul Devlin said.

“Being a local neighbour of ours, we’ve been trying to catch up for awhile but it’s hard with a busy pre-season schedule.”

The Eels staff were invited to the Giants’ team meetings, watched a field training session and discussed coaching and performance techniques.

“We discussed their preparation methods and looked at their different sports performance indicators and how we might be able to use some of them in our environment,” Devlin said.

“They’re at the extreme end of aerobic conditioning as far as team sports go - and where rugby league is also about running, there are wrestling and contact and up-and-down off the ground elements that are completely foreign to the AFL, so it’s great to see what we can learn.”

The Parramatta Eels’ principal partner Dyldam is also a proud corporate partner of the GWS Giants.
