The Dyldam Parramatta Eels would like to congratulate Apprentice Camp participant Josh Rawiri who has been selected in the New Zealand 16's Merit Team for 2016.
Rawiri was spooted by Parramatta recuritment staff at a carnival in 2015 in Nelson, New Zealand and was invited to take part in the Eels Apprentice Camp late last year.
Rawiri impressed the Blue and Gold Club enough with his testing, training and his performance in the trial match to be offered a contract.
Following the camp and his return home to Christchurch, Rawiri set the New Zealand 16s Merit Team selection as one of his main goals for 2016.
"I’m very honoured and happy to have been selected for the NZ team this year.," Rawiri said.
"After the Eels camp I returned home to work hard on areas of my footy that needed improvement and to achieve one of my goals is great."
"The Eels have been really good in helping me develop and hopefully in the next few years I can keep getting better so I’m ready for the Eels senior grades in the years to come.”
Josh is one of only two players selected in the NZ merit team that do not live in Auckland and its surrounding districts.
