The Parramatta Eels are saddened today following the passing of former Parramatta Eels assistant coach and legendary Rugby League figure Ron Massey.

Ron was assistant coach of the Eels premiership sides in 1981, 1982 and 1983 alongside legendary coach Jack Gibson.

Eels Chairman Max Donnelly said that Ron Massey would be remembered as an iconic and inspirational figure in the history of the Club.

“Ron was critical to ensuring that a talented but raw Eels team in 1980 went on to being one of the most celebrated teams in history,” Donnelly said.

“He had an innovative approach to rugby league and it is no coincidence that his impact on the game went beyond providing Eels fans its most successful period to date."

“As a club and as a game we owe an enormous debt to Ron and on behalf of the Blue and Gold Army, I offer condolences to his family,” Mr Donnelly said.
