This year, the Parramatta Eels supported Katherine South Primary School (KSPS), as they achieved some special highlights as they promoted Rugby League participation in their school in 2016.
KSPS started a new initiative to encourage the participation in sport for girls and boys primarily in Year 5/6 with students invited to voluntarily join their KSPS Rugby Academy.
The Academy was aimed as a way for students to participate in sklls and game-sense activities focused around learning the skills of Rugby League, Touch and Rugby Union.
The academy had over 30 students attend regularly through-out the year, including academy captain, Harley Byers, who was the KSPS representative to receive their Parramatta Eels Medal before the Parramatta Eels v Gold Coast Titans Round 14 clash at Darwin’s TIO Stadium in recognition of his efforts with Rugby League at KSPS.
We love their work! Check out their end of year Rugby Newsletter here to see a full run down!
Keep an eye out for more information on the Eels cup in the new year! The Eels Cup is an Under 16s Secondary Schools Rugby League competition in the Northern Territory, which commenced in 2014 as part of the ongoing partnership between the Parramatta Eels and the Northern Territory Government.
Katherine High School are the reigning Eels Cup champions, having won the competition in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Plans are also underway to expand the Eels cup to include primary schools gala days in Katherine and Darwin as part of the Blue and Gold's commitment to grow the sport in #eelsterritory.
