In 2017, when the Parramatta Eels win on the field, we will be announcing three awards presented to the players following the game.
The awards are:
· Rebel Moment of the Week Award
· Grappa Relentless Effort Award and
· Pendle Hill Meat Market Own Your Job Award
These awards are presented to the players as chosen by Eels Head Coach Brad Arthur and the Blue & Gold coaching staff in relation to how they meet the Eels standards and expectations.
Rebel Moment of the Week Award – Semi Radradra’s tackle on Brian Kelly.
In the 29th minute of the match, with the Eels holding a 14-6 lead, Manly’s captain Daly Cherry-Evans sliced through the defence, before drawing fullback Bevan French as he offloaded to Brian Kelly in support.
The Manly speedster, who received the ball on the half way line, had a clear run to the try line but a flying Semi Radradra rounded up Kelly in quick time, bringing the centre down and forcing an error in the tackle.
Grappa Relentless Effort Award – Suaia Matagi
Blue & Gold forward Suaia Matagi was inspirational in his Club debut. The prop finished with 151 running metres and 19 tackles in his 47 minutes on the field, which included several physical collisions with Sea Eagles forward Martin Taupau.
A hard running approach, with no sense of self-preservation, earns Suaia the Grappa Relentless Effort award in Round One.
Pendle Hill Meat Market Own Your Job Award – Corey Norman
The Pendle Hill Meat Market Own Your Job in Round One goes to Eels halfback Corey Norman.
Norman, who had not played a game since Round 18, 2016, led the Blue & Gold around the park, scoring a try, forcing six goal line drop outs, and kicking a spectacular 40-20 in his first game back on the field.
