Today, April 12, marks the exact date that the Parramatta Eels played their first ever match on 12 April 1947 against the Newtown Bluebags at Parramatta Oval. Newtown defeated Parramatta 34 – 12.

The Parramatta Eels Club officially celebrates its 70th anniversary at the Round 7 Easter Monday clash on 17 April against the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium. Traditionally one of the biggest games of the regular season, drawing crowds of close to 40,000 over the last two years, it will be a day of celebrations to commemorate our monumental milestone.

The Parramatta Eels will honour its “Hall of Fame” Members for their wonderful contribution to our Club with a special luncheon followed by an on-field presentation prior to kick off at ANZ Stadium. A number of Hall of Fame Members will be in attendance including Ray Price, Brett Kenny, Michael Cronin, Peter Wynn, Steve Edge and Peter Sterling.

“70 years in any sporting code is a massive achievement. This is a wonderful milestone that we are very proud to celebrate. This occasion really belongs to the Parramatta Eels Members and fans, plus all those past and present players and staff who have contributed to our great Club over the last 70 years”, said Parramatta Eels CEO Bernie Gurr.

In addition to the on-field presentation, the Parramatta Eels will host its Members, including our Life Members, in the exclusive “Members Lounge 47” which includes live entertainment, pre-game catering and player appearances. Members and ticket holders are entitled to travel to and from the game on the free integrated Major Event transport.

Following the launch of the Parramatta Eels 70th Anniversary logo earlier this year to commemorate the Club’s entry into the NSWRL competition in 1947, the Parramatta Eels also launched its exclusive 70th Year Anniversary Heritage jersey during a press conference yesterday at the Parramatta Leagues Club.

In 70 years, the Parramatta Eels Rugby League Club has become the number 1 professional sports organisation in western Sydney, boasting the largest membership and supporter base, with biggest TV reach and online media presence plus the highest proportion of females in our supporter base in the NRL.  With a new governance platform now implemented, the Parramatta Eels Rugby League Club is ready to move into its next successful era.
