Eels Jersey Flegg claim two points in controlled win over Mounties

The Parramatta Eels Jersey Flegg side have come away with a 32-24 victory over Mounties at Henson Park on Saturday 19 May in Round 11 of the Jersey Flegg competition.

After the past fortnight saw no games in the competition, with an enforced two week break, the young Blue & Gold were looking to continue on their winning ways after a dominant last up victory before the break.

A tough opening ten minute stanza saw both teams looking to gain an early ascendency, and tries to fullback Siona Fonua and Mounties fullback Andre Niko had the scores locked at 6-6 after the softening up period.

The young Blue & Gold began to find their rhythm and tries to hard running forward Jesse Cronin and left centre Noel Aukafolau saw the side extend their lead to 16-6 heading towards half time.

However a lack of completions saw Mounties strike back with two quick tries as the half time siren approached, crossing through Hudson Young and Paul Roache, seeing the Eels take a 16-14 lead into the half time sheds.

Half Dylan Brown steadied the ship in the second half and crossed for his own four pointer six minutes into the second half before Fonua crossed for his second of the afternoon to see the Eels extend their lead to two converted tries, 26-14.

Mounties centre Mathew Lyons found his way over the try line in the 57th minute of the clash as the home side attempted to mount a come back, but Eels back rower Dylan Clifford crashed over for his own four pointer just four minutes later to keep the Eels in control.

A converted try late to Brendan O’Hagan, crossing in the 77th minute of the clash was a late consolation for the home side, with the Eels coming away with a dominant and controlling 32-24 victory over Mounties at Henson Park.
