Last Saturday, at our Women in League Round match against the St George Illawarra Dragons, the Parramatta Eels launched Women@Eels coterie. This important initiative aims to recognise the influence women have in Rugby League, whilst engaging women and girls to participate and support the Parramatta Eels Club.

The Women@Eels launch function, emceed by Sarah Forster, was attended by over 100 guests including Members, Community Partners, local Female Footballers and the mothers and partners of our playing squad, who were entertained in the Olympian’s Room at ANZ Stadium before NRL kick off. A Q&A panel discussion with Parramatta Eels director Vicki Leaver, Life Education CEO Kellie Sloane and Eels Member and fan Mary K of Ladies Who League, provided guests with some background knowledge of the Eels current community relationships, as well as insight into the strategic goals and future activities of Women@Eels.

All female Parramatta Eels Members with a passion for growing female engagement will be able to join Women@Eels. Our coterie initiatives will include an online Facebook community, a quarterly newsletter and an assortment of female engagement focused events including an annual pre-match meet-up.

The Women@Eels concept was a suggestion delivered through the Eels Members Council initiative. The Parramatta Eels would like to thank our female Members Councillors Michelle Samson, Cherry Fratto, Melissa Muscat and Karen Cauchi for their assistance in establishing the Women’s coterie concept. In particular, the Parramatta Eels would like to mention former Member Councillors Michelle Samson and Cherry Fratto for all of their hard work in developing the original framework for Women@Eels.

More information about how Members can join the Women@Eels Coterie will be communicated during our 2019 Membership renewal period.
