Spirited Eels Jersey Flegg start fast to defeat Dragons

Eels Jersey Flegg v Dragons Highlights

The Parramatta Eels Jersey Flegg side have backed up last week’s determined victory over the Knights to claim a spirited 22-10 victory over the Dragons at New Era Stadium on Saturday 4th May in Round Eight of the Jersey Flegg competition.

A strong start saw the young Blue & Gold fly out of the blocks with two quick tries through winger Tyler Tuigamala in the second minute before half Joseph Taipari crossed in the sixth minute.

The Eels opted for a play down their short side at the back end of their first set with the ball and Tuigamala won the race to the bouncing grubber from Taipari. With the ball looking like it was going to bounce dead, the winger dover and planted it for an unconverted try.

Four minutes later, with the Eels down the Dragons end, Taipari grubbered towards the post and the ball ricocheted off a Dragons player with the half winning the race to the ball and planting it to the right of the posts for a converted try and a 10-0 lead.

The Dragons hit back in the twelfth minute when towering winger Sam McCann out jumped his opposite number to score to the left of the posts.

The Eels hit back again, with hooker Kyle Schneider throwing a nice flat ball at the line to put back rower Arron Shelford over in the 27th minute.

With the half time siren looming, the Dragons once again went down their left edge and McCann had his second of the afternoon after a nice cut out ball from his halfback put the winger over in the corner.

The Eels holding a 16-10 lead at half time.

There was just the one try in the second stanza, with a smart play from Schneider who outstretched his arm to plant the ball on the line from dummy half in the 54th minute to extend the Eels lead.

A quick dart from dummy half close to the line, before a spin to the try line saw the hooker score and the Eels claim a 22-10 lead after he converted his own try.

A grinding second 35 minutes saw just the one try but it was their impressive defensive efforts that saw the Blue & Gold repel their opposition and keep them out for the entire half.

The Eels Jersey Flegg side coming away 22-10 victors.

The Eels Jersey Flegg side will come up against the third placed Panthers at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday 11 May in Round Nine of the competition.
